Stanford

In some matters we must wait for the country and help speed it along.
However, there are some things we should start on.

1. computer library of Stanford reports in standard format.
Preparing a copy for on-line accessibility and printing should be
a requirement for engineering PhD theses as routine as one inch
margins.

2. There should be an engineering library computer that would maintain
permanent files of newsgroups with emphasis on the technical. Probably
the standards of coverage should be set by librarians who have good
experience and traditions with advice from computer people.

3. New libraries should be physically designed so that they can
contain lots of terminals.

4. Stanford should not commit itself to installing hardware too much
in advance of use, however. The technology may not move in the
direction predicted.
